Although France's regulated electricity tariff is expected to drop by 10% in February 2025, private suppliers are already offering up to 25% off. These deals are made possible by the sharp decline in wholesale electricity prices. Still, customers are advised to read the fine print — especially regarding subscription fees — before switching.
“Electricity suppliers are offering major discounts right now because wholesale market prices have dropped significantly.” — Maxime de la Raudière, General Delegate at Selectra
As energy prices continue to climb, many French households opt for fixed monthly bills—but this approach can lead to unpleasant surprises, like a large catch-up payment at year’s end

This adjustment aligns demand with renewable energy generation and helps you save—if you adapt usage accordingly.
“Soon, 90% of households with this option will have two off‑peak slots: one at night from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and another during the day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

“The reform will align off‑peak hours with periods of strong solar generation, encouraging households to shift part of their consumption to daytime.” — RTE (France’s electricity transmission operator)
According to the latest data, households in Île-de-France pay on average 40% more for home insurance than those in Brittany. The difference is explained by higher property values, greater risk exposure (theft, water damage), and higher reconstruction costs in the Paris region.
“In Île-de-France, premiums average €290 per year, compared to €200 in Brittany.” — Le Figaro
